Ferry Travemünde – Trelleborg FAQ

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Travemünde – Trelleborg ferry with TT-Line

How long does the crossing from Travemünde to Trelleborg take, and how often does the ferry sail?+

TT-Line's ferry takes around 8 hours to sail from Travemünde to Trelleborg in southern Sweden. Both day and night sailings are available, with up to 8 departures a day, so you can choose whichever crossing suits your plans – a daytime sailing with Baltic Sea views, or an overnight trip in a comfortable cabin.

Ferries depart from Skandinavienkai in Lübeck-Travemünde, one of Europe's largest ferry ports. The terminal is easy to reach via the A1 and A226 motorways, and the port of Hamburg is only around an hour's drive away. Once you land in Trelleborg, Sweden's southernmost town, you're just about 30 km from Malmö.

How much does the ferry from Travemünde to Trelleborg cost?+

A one-way crossing on the Travemünde–Trelleborg route starts from €59 including a car. If you book both the outward and return journey together, TT-Line's return packages let you save up to 20% on the ticket price. There are also discounts of up to 20% on meals, 5% in the onboard shop, and up to 15% on cabins with certain packages.

The best way to get a good price is to book early, before the sailing fills up. Daytime crossings and weekday departures also tend to be cheaper. For departures in 2026, a fuel surcharge and a fee under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) apply per person, vehicle and route. These surcharges don't apply to children up to 6 years old.

How do I book the crossing, and how does check-in work?+

The easiest way to book is online through the booking form at ttline.com – there's no charge for this. There you can select your crossing, cabin, meals and extras such as the FLEX option directly. Only one vehicle can be added per booking, with exceptions for motorbikes and bicycles.

You'll receive online check-in access by email 48 hours before departure. At the port in Travemünde, scan the barcode from your booking confirmation at the self-check-in kiosk to collect your boarding pass, cabin key and any meal vouchers. Check-in usually opens two hours before departure, and you need to be checked in and ready to board at least 30 minutes beforehand.

Can I change or cancel my booking?+

The FLEX option lets you change or cancel your booking online free of charge up to 24 hours before departure – it can be added to any fare, on any route. You'll be refunded the fare minus the cost of the FLEX option itself. Without FLEX, a €40 rebooking fee applies, and SMART tickets can't be refunded at all if cancelled.

Rebookings and cancellations can be handled easily through the "My TT-Line" area – either by logging in or, without registering, using your email address and booking number. If a TT-Line staff member has to process the change manually, a €15–16 service fee applies.

Can I bring my pet on board?+

Pets are welcome on all TT-Line ferries and must be declared when you book. Dedicated pet cabins are available, though numbers are limited (max. 2 pets per cabin). If these are fully booked, some ships – such as Nils Holgersson, Peter Pan or Tinker Bell – allow pets in regular cabins instead, for which a cleaning and service fee applies.

Dogs are allowed on the passenger decks, both indoors and outside. Every ship has designated dog areas, including in the restaurant, plus a dog toilet on the outer decks. As the car deck is off-limits during the crossing, pets can't be left in your vehicle.
