The ferry saves you the long overland route via Denmark and the Öresund Bridge: you board in Poland in the evening and arrive on Stockholm's doorstep by midday the next day. Departure in Gdańsk
Your starting point is the ferry port of Gdańsk on the Bay of Gdańsk, at the heart of Poland's Tricity region. The ferry departs in the early evening, around 18:00. Check-in opens 120 minutes before departure and closes 30 minutes before for vehicles, 15 minutes before for foot passengers. With an electric car, you need to be at the terminal 120 minutes beforehand. Even so, it's worth building in some extra time, especially in peak season.
The crossing
Around 260 nautical miles of open Baltic Sea separate the two ports, with a crossing time of about 18 hours. The route is served by the M/F Nova Star and the M/F Wawel, both sailing under Polferries, the Polish shipping company Polska Żegluga Bałtycka. Since 30 March 2026, the line has been operated by POLSCA Baltic Ferries, the group under which Polferries, Unity Line and EuroAfrica have combined their ferry operations; the Polferries brand remains in place. On board you'll find restaurants and cafés, a shop, a children's play area and free Wi-Fi.
Cabins range from the simple 4-berth inside cabin to the Owner Class with breakfast, fridge and TV, all with a private bathroom. Since this is an overnight crossing, a cabin here is a necessity rather than a luxury: without one, you'd spend the night in the communal areas.
By car, motorhome, bike or with a dog

Arrival in Nynäshamn and onward travel
Nynäshamn lies on the Baltic coast about 60 km south of Stockholm. Polferries docks at the terminal in the port of Nynäshamn, around 400 m north of the railway station; the terminal has a waiting hall, toilets, a baby-changing room and a kiosk that opens around ship arrivals. For the return crossing, check-in opens 120 minutes before departure and closes 30 minutes before for vehicles, 15 minutes before for foot passengers; vehicles should follow the signage in the port. There's a paid car park at the port run by Apcoa Parking. From the station, the Pendeltåg commuter train takes around an hour to Stockholm Central, the simplest onward route for foot passengers. By car, Route 73 takes you into the city centre in about an hour, though you should budget for parking charges in Stockholm; from Södertälje, Route 225 ends directly at the port. In peak season, July and August, the line runs almost daily; in the off-season there are around 3 to 5 departures a week. The exact dates for your travel period are shown in the timetable. Prices vary considerably with season, day of the week, cabin category and vehicle, and Polferries regularly runs promotional fares. The operator doesn't use fixed fare tiers like Flex or Saver: instead there's the standard fare, time-limited special offers (such as discounted departures or family packages), and discounted return tickets that cost less than two one-way trips. Any change or cancellation must be made at least one working day (24 hours) before departure; after that, no refund is possible, and special offers are generally excluded from refunds altogether. The Gdańsk - Nynäshamn route connects the port city on the Bay of Gdańsk with the Swedish coastal town of Nynäshamn, around 60 km south of Stockholm.
