The route in detail
Between Gdańsk and Nynäshamn lies a night on the Baltic Sea. The ferry saves you the long overland route via Denmark and the Öresund Bridge: you board in Poland in the evening and arrive at the gates of Stockholm the next midday. And since you sleep in your cabin, you save a hotel night too.
Departure from Gdańsk
The starting point is the ferry port of Gdańsk on the Bay of Gdańsk, at the heart of Poland's Tricity area. The ferry departs in the early evening, around 18:00. Check-in opens 120 minutes before departure and closes 30 minutes before for vehicles, and 15 minutes before for foot passengers. With an electric car, you need to be at the terminal 120 minutes beforehand. Even so, it's worth allowing extra time, especially in high season.
The crossing
Around 260 nautical miles of open Baltic Sea lie between the two ports, with a crossing time of about 18 hours. The M/F Nova Star and M/F Wawel sail this route, both flying the flag of Polferries, the Polish shipping company Polska Żegluga Bałtycka. On board you'll find restaurants and cafés, a shop, a children's play area and free WiFi.
Cabins range from the simple 4-berth inside cabin to the Owner Class with breakfast, fridge and TV, all with a private bathroom. Since this is an overnight crossing, a cabin here is standard rather than a luxury – without one, you'd spend the night in the shared lounge areas.
Car, motorhome, bike or dog

Arrival in Nynäshamn and onward travel
Nynäshamn sits on the Baltic coast around 60 km south of Stockholm. It's just a few minutes from the ferry terminal to the station, from where the Pendeltåg takes about an hour to Stockholm Central – the simplest onward journey for foot passengers. By car, the drive into the city centre takes roughly the same time, though you should budget for Stockholm's parking charges. Timetable, season and prices
In high season, during July and August, the line runs almost daily; in the low season there are around 3–5 departures a week. You'll find the exact dates for your travel period in the timetable. Prices vary considerably by season, day of the week, cabin category and vehicle, and Polferries regularly runs promotional fares. The operator doesn't use fixed fare tiers like Flex or Saver: there's the standard fare, time-limited special offers (such as reduced sailings or family packages) and discounted return tickets that cost less than two one-way crossings. Rebooking or cancellation must be requested at least one working day (24 hours) before departure – after that, no refund is possible, and promotional fares are generally excluded from refunds altogether. The Gdańsk–Nynäshamn route connects Poland's historic port city on the Bay of Gdańsk with the Swedish coastal town of Nynäshamn, around 60 km south of Stockholm.
