Direct to Malmö
Finnlines runs the Travemünde - Malmö route up to three times a day (at night, early in the morning and during the day), taking around 9 hours. A cabin is only compulsory on overnight sailings and when travelling with pets. The approach to Malmö passes right under the Öresund Bridge. From Świnoujście, Finnlines sails overnight to Malmö in around 9 hours; from Berlin it's about a three-hour drive to the ferry port.
Via Trelleborg and Ystad
To Trelleborg, TT-Line sails from Travemünde up to five times a day, Stena Line and TT-Line from Rostock, and TT-Line and POLSCA from Świnoujście; the two Rostock operators have sailed separately since September 2018, so always compare both offers. From Trelleborg you reach Malmö via the E6 in around 30 minutes, or by Pågatåg without a car. To Ystad, POLSCA and Unity Line sail from Świnoujście, and Malmö is just under an hour's drive from there.
Via Denmark to Malmö
The ferry from Puttgarden to Rødby takes only around 45 minutes; from Rødby you continue via the E47 and the Öresund Bridge to Malmö in around 2.5 hours. From Rostock, the ferry to Gedser takes 2 hours on the same route via Zealand, and it's around 3 hours from Gedser to Malmö. From Bornholm, Bornholmslinjen's fast ferry Rønne - Ystad takes you to Skåne in 80 minutes, after which it's around 60 kilometres on the E65. If you're starting in North Zealand, cross with Öresundslinjen in 20 minutes from Helsingør to Helsingborg and head south on the E6.
