Świnoujście - Malmö: the route guide
Świnoujście, on the island of Usedom right on the German border, is Poland's ferry gateway to southern Sweden. For travellers coming from Germany or further afield, the port is the closest starting point for the crossing, and the overnight sailing saves the long drive via Denmark and the Öresund Bridge.
Getting to the ferry terminal
The ferry departs from the Euro Terminal at ul. Jana Sołtana 1, in the east of the city. By car, it's around three hours from Berlin and roughly four hours from Dresden. If you're staying on Usedom island, the seaside resort of Heringsdorf is just a quarter of an hour away.
Świnoujście has several ferry terminals, and the signage doesn't always point to the right one. Enter the exact address into your sat nav rather than following a sign reading "Terminal promowy".
Check-in and departure
Check-in opens two hours before departure and closes one hour before. The evening sailing leaves at 21:30 and docks in Malmö around 06:45 the next morning. From Świnoujście, bringing a vehicle is mandatory – travelling as a foot passenger alone isn't possible on this leg.

On board
The Finnfellow and Finntrader operate the route, occasionally the Finnpartner. All are Ro-Pax ferries – cargo ships with a full passenger area: a buffet restaurant with Scandinavian cuisine, a bar, the Sailor's Shop, a free sauna area and a children's play area.

Arrival in Malmö and onward travel
Early in the morning you arrive in Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city. From the port, the E6 motorway runs north towards Gothenburg and east across Skåne; Copenhagen is just under an hour's drive away over the Öresund Bridge. An overnight ferry from Usedom island to southern Sweden
The Świnoujście–Malmö route connects the Polish port city on the island of Usedom with southern Sweden – an overnight crossing of around nine hours across the Baltic Sea. Since April 2024, Finnlines has operated the route as the sole carrier, filling a gap for travellers coming from Poland and north-eastern Germany alike: the ferry terminal is around three hours by car from Berlin, and the seaside resort of Heringsdorf on Usedom island is just 15 km away.
The route is served by Finnlines' Ro-Pax ferries, usually the Finnfellow or the Finntrader, occasionally the Finnpartner.
