Ferry Operators to Sweden
Seven ferry companies operate on the Baltic Sea routes to Sweden: three from Germany, three from Poland and two from Denmark (Stena Line runs services on both sides). Each operator has its own profile - from the classic overnight ferry with a compulsory cabin to a 20-minute shuttle across the Öresund. These short profiles link through to the full operator pages with history, fleet and all routes.
From Germany
Stena Line is one of the world's largest ferry operators and has run the overnight route from Kiel to Gothenburg since 1967 - the only direct link from Germany to Sweden's west coast. Since the crossing runs overnight, a cabin is always part of the booking.
TT-Line has sailed the traditional Travemünde - Trelleborg route since 1962, adding Rostock - Trelleborg and Świnoujście - Trelleborg to its network. With its LNG-powered Green Ships, the Lübeck-based operator runs the most modern fleet on the southern Baltic.
Finnlines connects Travemünde with Malmö up to three times a day. The Finnish operator belongs to the Grimaldi Group, and with both day and night departures it also works well as a mini cruise.
From Poland
Polferries is Poland's state ferry operator and has crossed the Baltic since 1976 - today running from Gdańsk to Nynäshamn near Stockholm and from Świnoujście to Ystad, both overnight.
Unity Line, based in Szczecin, has operated the Świnoujście - Ystad route since 1995 with the RoPax ferries Polonia and Skania. Since March 2026, Unity Line and Polferries have combined their ferry operations under the joint POLSCA Baltic Ferries group; both brands and their routes continue as before.
From Denmark
Stena Line links Frederikshavn in North Jutland with Gothenburg in around three and a half hours - the short route across the Kattegat for travellers coming through Denmark.
The Öresundslinjen shuttles between Helsingør and Helsingborg across the narrowest point of the Öresund: a 20-minute crossing, running every 20 minutes during the day with battery-electric ferries. The brand belongs to the Danish Molslinjen group.
There's also Scandlines, with the short Baltic crossings Puttgarden - Rødby and Rostock - Gedser, which you combine with the onward drive over the Öresund Bridge - most simply with the Sweden Ticket, which bundles ferry and bridge into a single ticket.

Yes. Stena Line connects Frederikshavn with Gothenburg, and the Öresundslinjen shuttles back and forth between Helsingør and Helsingborg every 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can cross with Scandlines to Denmark and continue over the Öresund Bridge - also bookable as a combined ticket with the Sweden Ticket.
