From Poland
Gdańsk - Nynäshamn
From Gdańsk you travel overnight right to Stockholm's doorstep. Polferries runs the route with the Nova Star and the Wawel, and the crossing takes around 18 hours. You depart Gdańsk in the evening and arrive in Nynäshamn the following day. A cabin is practically standard on this route. From Latvia
Ventspils - Nynäshamn
Stena Line connects Ventspils on the Courland coast with Nynäshamn. The Stena Scandica and the Stena Baltica sail the line, and the crossing takes around 8.5 hours. There's usually one sailing a day, with the evening ferry arriving the following morning. The route suits you if you're coming from the Baltics or planning a round trip through Latvia and Sweden. Terminal and check-in
Nynäshamn has two separate ferry terminals. The terminal at Nynäshamn harbour lies around 400 m north of the station. This is where the Polferries ferries from Gdańsk dock, along with the Gotland ferries to Visby. The terminal has a waiting hall, toilets, a baby-changing room and a kiosk that opens for ship arrivals. Vehicles follow the signs in the port to check-in. With Polferries, check-in opens 120 minutes before departure and closes 30 minutes before for vehicles, 15 minutes before for foot passengers.
Stena Line sails from the Norviks färjeterminal, Norvikvägen 26, 149 45 Nynäshamn. The terminal is around 4 km from the town centre, about a 10-minute drive. Check-in closes 60 minutes before departure. On arrival, Stena Line brings foot passengers from the ramp to the terminal, or straight to the station, by shuttle bus.
Getting there and parking
From Stockholm, road 73 runs south from Årsta or Gullmarsplan to Nynäshamn, around 60 km, roughly half of it motorway. From Södertälje, take road 225, which ends right at the harbour. Nynäsvägen leads straight to the Norvik terminal.
There's a paid car park at Nynäshamn harbour, run by Apcoa Parking. The Norvik terminal has short- and long-stay parking as well as EV charging points.
Onward travel
The Pendeltåg train connects Nynäshamn directly to Stockholm's suburban rail network, taking around an hour into the centre. SL buses also run to Nynäshamn from Stockholm and Södertälje. A free Stena Line shuttle bus runs from the Norvik terminal to the station, taking 10 to 15 minutes; it only runs on days the ferry sails, and the stop at the station is stop Z. Bring your own child seat if you need one.

- Coming from Germany or Poland: take the overnight Gdańsk - Nynäshamn ferry. It saves you the road route via Denmark and gets you to Stockholm well rested.
- Travelling through the Baltics: Ventspils - Nynäshamn is the shorter crossing and fits well at the end of a trip through Lithuania and Latvia.
- Travelling without a car: both routes take foot passengers. From Nynäshamn harbour you walk to the station; from Norvik, the shuttle bus takes you there.
