Ventspils - Nynäshamn is the short sea route from Latvia to central Sweden. Stena Line sails the line daily, and after eight and a half to ten and a half hours you're a good hour outside Stockholm. Departure in Ventspils
Ventspils lies on the west coast of Courland, around 190 kilometres from Riga. Stena Line's ferry terminal is in the commercial harbour, a few minutes from the town centre. Check-in closes 60 minutes before departure; build in some buffer in summer, as missing the deadline means you won't make it on board.
The crossing
The Stena Baltica and the Stena Scandica operate the route. On board you choose between a reclining seat and a cabin, with a private bathroom if you like. For the overnight crossing, the cabin is the quieter choice. Payment on board is by card only, so you don't need cash.
With a car, motorhome, bike or dog
Cars, motorbikes, motorhomes and caravans can travel. The price depends on the length and height of your vehicle, so state the dimensions including any roof box and bike rack. Arrival in Nynäshamn and onward travel
In Nynäshamn the ferry docks at the Norvik ferry terminal, Norvikvägen 26, 149 45 Nynäshamn, around 4 km from the centre; the Nynäsvägen leads right up to it. For the return crossing, check-in closes 60 minutes before departure. The terminal has short- and long-stay car parks plus charging points for electric cars. Without a car, Stena Line's free shuttle bus takes you to Nynäshamn station in 10 to 15 minutes (stop Z, ferry days only, bring your own child seat), from where the Pendeltåg takes around an hour to Stockholm Central.
