Ventspils - Nynäshamn is the direct sea route from Latvia to central Sweden. Stena Line runs the line daily, and after eight and a half to ten and a half hours you're a good hour from Stockholm. For travellers from the Baltics, the ferry replaces the long drive via Finland or around the Baltic Sea.
Departure from Ventspils
Ventspils lies on the west coast of Courland, around 190 kilometres from Riga. Stena Line's ferry terminal is in the commercial harbour, a few minutes from the town centre. Check-in closes 60 minutes before departure; in summer, allow a little extra time, since missing the deadline means missing the boat.
The crossing
The Stena Baltica and the Stena Scandica sail the line. On board you choose between a reclining seat and a cabin, with a private bathroom if you like. For overnight sailings, the cabin is the quieter choice. Payment on board is card only, so you won't need cash.
Car, motorhome, bike or dog
Cars, motorbikes, motorhomes and caravans can all travel. The price is based on your vehicle's length and height, so give the full dimensions including any roof box and bike rack. Arrival in Nynäshamn and onward travel
In Nynäshamn, the ferry docks at the Norvik terminal, Norvikvägen 26, south of the town. Without a car, a free Stena Line shuttle bus takes you to Nynäshamn station, from where the Pendeltåg train reaches Stockholm Central in around an hour.
