From Finland
Naantali - Kapellskär
Finnlines connects Naantali, near Turku, with Kapellskär twice a day. The Finnsirius and the Finncanopus operate the route, both calling at Långnäs on Åland en route. The whole crossing takes around 8 to 9 hours and passes through the archipelago between Finland and Sweden. The route is an alternative to the big ferries from Turku to Stockholm if you don't need the city centre. More in the route guide Naantali - Kapellskär.
From Åland
Långnäs - Kapellskär
Långnäs lies in eastern Åland. The Finnlines ferries from Naantali call here, and the crossing to Kapellskär takes around 3.5 hours. In November 2026, Tallink Silja also sails the route on selected days with the Baltic Princess. Dogs travelling via Åland must have been treated for tapeworm 1 to 5 days before departure. There is currently no direct ferry from Mariehamn to Kapellskär. Viking Line discontinued the route in January 2023. From Mariehamn, ferries now sail to Stockholm instead: see Ferries to Stockholm.
From Estonia
Paldiski - Kapellskär
DFDS sails from Paldiski, around 50 km west of Tallinn, to Kapellskär. The Sirena Seaways operates the route, and the crossing takes around 10 hours. There are evening and morning sailings on most days of the week. Important: on this route you can only travel with a vehicle, DFDS does not carry foot passengers. Terminal and check-in
The port's address is Kapellskär, 760 15 Gräddö; entering "Kapellskär" into your sat nav is enough. The passenger terminal has a waiting hall and a lift, and wheelchairs can be borrowed. The entrance you use for check-in depends on your operator:
- Entrance A: check-in for DFDS.
- Entrance B: car park for travellers and terminal for foot passengers.
- Entrance C: check-in for Finnlines and Tallink Silja.
With Finnlines, check-in opens 2 hours before departure and closes 1 hour before. Foot passengers check in at the terminal and take a shuttle bus to the ship. The terminal is open daily from 06:00 to 22:00.
Getting there and parking
From Stockholm, take the E18 to Norrtälje and then follow the signs for "Hamn/Kapellskär"; the E18 runs all the way into the port. From Arlanda, Uppsala or Gävle, take road 77 and switch to the E18 at Norrtälje. From Västerås or Örebro, you reach the E18 via the Norrortsleden at Häggvik.
Entrance B leads to a large car park for travellers. The first hour is free with a parking disc, after which charges apply. You can park for up to 14 days, paying by card, app or SMS.
Onward travel
Kapellskär lies around 20 km east of Norrtälje and around 90 km from Stockholm and Uppsala. By car, the E18 takes you straight to Stockholm. Without a car, take SL bus 631 to Norrtälje, from where SL buses continue towards Stockholm. Foot passengers are better served by the Finnlines routes, since DFDS only carries travellers with a vehicle.

No longer. Viking Line stopped the Mariehamn - Kapellskär route in January 2023. From Åland you now travel with Finnlines from Långnäs to Kapellskär, or take the ferries from Mariehamn straight to Stockholm.
