DFDS is a Danish ferry company based in Copenhagen that operates passenger and freight ferries alongside a land-based logistics business. The company operates in more than 20 countries, employs around 15,000 people, and carries around 5.25 million passengers every year.
History and group
DFDS traces its history back to 1866. Today the company is listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. On the Baltic, DFDS works closely with TT-Line: on three routes, the two companies sell places on each other's ships. For the Karlshamn - Klaipėda line, DFDS has chartered the Ciudad de Valencia, which has sailed the route since mid-September 2026.
DFDS to Sweden
Three routes from the Baltics matter for your trip to Sweden. On Klaipėda - Karlshamn, DFDS sails the Luna Seaways and the Optima Seaways overnight in around 13 hours to Blekinge; together with TT-Line's sailings, there are several ferries a day on most days. Klaipėda - Trelleborg is operated by TT-Line with its own ships, with DFDS selling these crossings as well; at around 19 hours and up to three departures a week, it's the longer and less frequent connection to southern Sweden.
From Estonia, the Sirena Seaways sails Paldiski - Kapellskär in around ten hours to Roslagen, roughly 90 kilometres north of Stockholm. This route can only be booked with a vehicle. Cars up to 2.7 metres in height travel in the standard category on DFDS ships; taller vehicles such as motorhomes are booked by length and height.
