About Tallink Silja Line
Tallink Silja Line is the brand under which AS Tallink Grupp operates its cruise ferries in the northern Baltic. The company is based in Tallinn and listed on the Tallinn Stock Exchange. According to its own figures, the group operates 11 ships on five routes, carried a total of 5,531,132 passengers in 2025, and holds a share of around 40 per cent of passenger traffic in the northern Baltic.
The ships to Stockholm are large overnight ferries with cabins, restaurants, bars and an on-board shop, plus a vehicle deck for cars, motorhomes and bicycles.
History and group
Tallink was founded in Estonia in 1989. In 2006 the company took over Finland's Silja Line, whose ships had already been sailing between Finland and Sweden for decades. Since then the cruise ferries have operated jointly as Tallink Silja Line.
Four ships sail to Sweden. The Silja Serenade and the Silja Symphony connect Helsinki and Stockholm; both have a 142 m promenade deck inside. The Baltic Princess sails between Turku and Stockholm, and the Baltic Queen between Tallinn and Stockholm.
Tallink Silja Line to Sweden
In Stockholm, all ships dock at Värtahamnen, Hamnpirsvägen 10. The Gärdet metro station on the red line is within walking distance, and shuttle buses run to the Cityterminalen. These routes sail to Sweden:
- Helsinki - Stockholm: daily overnight with the Silja Serenade or the Silja Symphony from the Olympia terminal, around 18 hours with a call at Mariehamn.
- Turku - Stockholm: in the evening with the Baltic Princess, around 11 hours 40 minutes with a call at Långnäs.
- Tallinn - Stockholm: every second evening with the Baltic Queen from the D-terminal, around 17.5 hours with a call at Mariehamn.
- Mariehamn - Stockholm and Långnäs - Stockholm: the stops on Åland, each around 6.5 hours to Stockholm.
- Långnäs - Kapellskär: only on selected days in November 2026 with the Baltic Princess.
Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure. Tallink recommends arriving at the terminal an hour beforehand; check-in closes 30 minutes before departure, and boarding 20 minutes before. On the Åland routes, drivers should arrive 1.5 hours in advance. On board you can pay by card or in cash in euros, though the Finnish terminals take card only.
