Finnlines sails from Naantali near Turku to Kapellskär north of Stockholm, crossing two archipelagos on the way. The ferry calls at Långnäs on Åland en route and takes you to Sweden in 8 to 9 hours, with a car, campervan or on foot: a day sailing in the morning, or an evening sailing with a cabin.
Departing from Naantali
The ferry port is at Satamatie 9 in Naantali. By car, follow the signs to the port at the Maski/Lietsala junction; vehicles check in at the check-in desks, foot passengers at the terminal, from where a minibus takes them to the ship. Check-in opens two hours before departure and closes one hour before. Have a valid passport or national ID card ready. From Turku, take Föli bus 6 or 6A into central Naantali and change there to line N14 to the port. There's an Aimo Park car park right at the port, with parking limited to eight days.
The crossing
The route is sailed by the sister ships Finnsirius and Finncanopus, both in service since 2023 and built for up to 1,100 passengers. On board there's an à la carte restaurant, a buffet, a bistro and a bar, plus a duty-free shop, the Stellar Lounge, a sauna and spa, and a fitness area. Cabins are on Decks 7 to 9, and family cabins sleep up to six people. A cabin is required on the evening and overnight sailing. Payment on board is by card only. If you're travelling with reduced mobility, contact Finnlines customer service before booking: there's no step-free access from the car deck to the lift.
With a car, campervan, bike or dog
Cars, campervans, motorbikes and bicycles travel too; all vehicles check in at the desks in the port. Notes on dimensions and booking are in the guide Travelling to Sweden with a campervan. Arrival in Kapellskär and onward travel
Kapellskär lies on the Roslagen coast. From the port, the E18 leads via Norrtälje to Stockholm; in the other direction, the port is signposted from Norrtälje as "Hamn/Kapellskär". Without a car, take SL buses 631 or 631X, which stop right at the port and connect to Stockholm via Norrtälje. The terminal is open daily from 06:00 to 22:00. The line runs twice daily all year round. From Naantali the ferry departs in the morning and at 22:45; all times are local, and Finland is an hour ahead of Sweden.
