Ports in Scania
Scania is Sweden's southern tip and the destination for most ferries from Germany and Poland. TT-Line and Stena Line from Travemünde and Rostock dock in Trelleborg, along with TT-Line and POLSCA Baltic Ferries from Świnoujście and TT-Line from Klaipėda. From the terminal it's 30 km along the E6 to Malmö. Ystad receives POLSCA's ships from Świnoujście and the Bornholmslinjen fast catamaran from Rønne. In Malmö, Finnlines docks from Travemünde and Świnoujście, and drivers also arrive via the Öresund Bridge. The Öresund port of Helsingborg sits right in the city centre, with the railway and bus stations under one roof. Ports in Blekinge
East of Scania are two ports on the E22. Karlshamn receives overnight ferries from TT-Line from Travemünde and Klaipėda, from DFDS from Klaipėda, and from Polferries from Gdańsk. In Karlskrona, Stena Line from Gdynia docks at the Verkö terminal, around 10 km outside the city. Arrival and onward travel are covered on the Gdynia - Karlskrona page.
Ports on the West Coast
Gothenburg is the major port on the west coast. Stena Line arrives overnight from Kiel and several times a day from Frederikshavn. From here the E6 runs north towards Oslo and south to Malmö, and the E20 to Stockholm. Further north in Bohuslän lies Strömstad, where the Color Hybrid docks from Sandefjord; details are on the Sandefjord - Strömstad page. Halmstad has had no ferry connection since 30 April 2026, as the route from Grenå has been discontinued.
Ports in Greater Stockholm
Ferries from Helsinki, Turku, Tallinn and Åland dock right in Stockholm, at Värtahamnen or at Stadsgården on Södermalm. Two further ports belong to the greater Stockholm area. Nynäshamn lies 60 km to the south and receives Polferries from Gdańsk and Stena Line from Ventspils, with the Pendeltåg commuter train reaching the city centre in around an hour. Kapellskär lies 90 km north in Roslagen and is the port for Finnlines from Naantali and Långnäs, as well as DFDS from Paldiski. Also in Roslagen is Grisslehamn, where Eckerö Linjen arrives from Eckerö on Åland in 2 hours, with connecting buses to Norrtälje, Stockholm and Uppsala. Gotland and Norrland
In summer you can reach Visby on Gotland overnight with the Birka Gotland from Mariehamn; more on the Mariehamn - Visby page. Sweden's northernmost ferry port is Umeå in Västerbotten, where Wasaline arrives from Vaasa across the Kvarken. The route is covered on the Vaasa - Umeå page.
