Departing from Rønne
The departure port is Rønne on the west coast of Bornholm. Foot passengers board at the terminal at Dampskibskajen 5, and vehicles heading to Ystad enter the port area via Sverigesvej 1. With a Standard, Flex or Lowprice ticket, you must be checked in ten minutes before the scheduled departure, for cars, bicycles and foot passengers alike. Electric cars with a reserved charging spot, lorries, buses and travellers needing assistance need 30 minutes. These deadlines apply even if the ferry is delayed. Authorities regularly check travellers to and from Bornholm, so bring a passport or national ID card. Short-term, long-term and supervised parking are available near the terminal.
The crossing
The high-speed catamarans Express 1 and Express 5 from Bornholmslinjen sail this route. The Express 1 is 112.6 metres long and 30.5 metres wide, was built by Incat in Tasmania, and reaches speeds of up to 40 knots. A lift connects the vehicle deck with the passenger area. On board there's Molly's Bistro with sandwiches, burgers, snacks, fruit and soft-serve ice cream, plus Barista's Coffee Shop for coffee on the go.
With a car, campervan, bike or dog
The car fare applies up to 1.95 metres tall. Taller vehicles, campervans and trailers are booked in the matching vehicle class; on the Express 1 the vehicle deck has lanes with 2.10 and 4.60 metres of clearance. Dogs and cats are welcome in the designated dog areas, on a lead or in a carrier and not on the seating. The operator notes that some animals are more relaxed staying in the car during the crossing. Arrival in Ystad and onward travel
In Ystad, vehicles drive off at Bornholmsgatan, and foot passengers arrive at the terminal at Hamntorget 2. If you're boarding here again on the way back, long-term parking is at Spanienfararegatan and Hamntorget, which also has short-term parking. The route runs all year round. In summer up to eight ferries a day depart in each direction, up to four on weekdays outside the season, with extra sailings added at weekends and during holidays. The timetable shows departures for your travel day. Prices follow three seasons: in 2026 high season runs from 8 June to 9 August, mid-season from 6 April to 7 June and from 10 August to 18 October, with low season the rest of the time.
