From Germany to Ystad

There's no direct ferry from Germany to Ystad, but two ways to get there. From Berlin and eastern Germany, drive to Świnoujście on the German-Polish border. Or cross from Sassnitz to Bornholm and take the high-speed ferry on to Sweden. According to the port authority, Ystad ranks fourth in Sweden by passenger numbers, with around 6,500 passengers a day on average.

Świnoujście - Ystad

Ships from Polferries and Unity Line sail this route from Poland. Since 30 March 2026 both have belonged to the POLSCA group, which sells tickets under the POLSCA Baltic Ferries brand. The crossing takes around 7.5 hours. Check-in opens 120 minutes before departure and closes 30 minutes before for vehicles, and 15 minutes before for foot passengers. Rønne - Ystad

Ystad has had an unbroken ferry link with Bornholm since the 1940s. Today Bornholmslinjen sails the route with high-speed ferries such as the Express 1, a 112.6 m catamaran, taking around 80 minutes. On weekdays there are up to four departures in each direction, rising to up to eight with an extra high-speed ferry from June to September. The catamarans stay alongside for only around 40 minutes. Terminal & check-in

Bornholmslinjen has two points of arrival: by car you head for Bornholmsgatan 1B, on foot to Hamntorget 2 (both 271 39 Ystad). Check-in in Ystad closes 10 minutes before departure, for cars, vehicles over 2.95 m tall up to 3,500 kg, foot passengers and cyclists. Arrive 30 minutes beforehand if you're driving an electric car that will charge on board, or if you've booked assistance.

At Unity Line you pay by card at the terminal, in Swedish kronor only. The counter is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 22:40, and at weekends the hours follow the departures.

Getting there and parking

Ystad lies on Scania's south coast, with Trelleborg around 45 km away. For the Poland ferries there's a long-stay car park on Österleden, right below the pedestrian bridge over the railway. For Bornholm, park at Hamnplan and on Spanienfararegatan, west of the terminal. Short-stay parking is available on Hamntorget, along with a multi-storey car park in town. All the car parks charge a fee.

Onward travel from Ystad

Ystad is one of Sweden's best-preserved medieval towns, so it's worth a stroll through the old town before you move on. By car you can head to Malmö and on across the Öresund Bridge to Copenhagen. Trelleborg, with its ferries to Germany, is around 45 km away via road 9 or the E65. That makes a round trip easy to plan: arrive via Bornholm, return from Trelleborg.

From Berlin and Brandenburg: Świnoujście - Ystad starts close to the border and brings you straight into Scania.
With an island stop: Sassnitz - Rønne and then Rønne - Ystad, with a few days on Bornholm in between.
