From Germany to Ystad

There's no direct ferry from Germany to Ystad, but there are two ways to get there. From Berlin and the east, you drive to Świnoujście on the German-Polish border. Or you cross from Sassnitz to Bornholm and take the fast ferry on to Sweden. According to the port authority, Ystad ranks fourth in Sweden by passenger numbers, with around 6,500 passengers a day on average.

Świnoujście - Ystad

Ships from Polferries and Unity Line run the route from Poland. Both have belonged to the operator POLSCA since 30 March 2026, which sells its tickets under the POLSCA Baltic Ferries brand. The crossing takes around 7.5 hours. Check-in opens 120 minutes before departure and closes 30 minutes before for vehicles, 15 minutes before for foot passengers. Rønne - Ystad

Ystad has been continuously connected to Bornholm since the 1940s. Today Bornholmslinjen runs the route with fast ferries such as the Express 1, a 112.6-metre catamaran, in around 80 minutes. On weekdays there are up to four departures per direction, and from June to September an extra fast ferry brings that up to eight. The catamarans stay at the quay for only around 40 minutes. Terminal & check-in

Bornholmslinjen has two points of contact: by car you head for Bornholmsgatan 1B, on foot for Hamntorget 2 (both 271 39 Ystad). Check-in in Ystad closes 10 minutes before departure for cars, vehicles over 2.95 m tall up to 3,500 kg, foot passengers and cyclists alike. If you're charging an electric car on board or have booked assistance, arrive 30 minutes before departure.

With Unity Line you pay by card at the terminal, in Swedish kronor only. The counter is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 22:40, and at weekends the times follow the departures.

Getting there & parking

Ystad lies on the south coast of Skåne, with Trelleborg around 45 km away. For the ferries to Poland there's a long-stay car park on Österleden, right below the pedestrian bridge over the railway. If you're heading to Bornholm, you park at Hamnplan and on Spanienfararegatan west of the terminal. There are short-stay car parks on Hamntorget, plus a multi-storey car park in town. All the car parks are paid.

Onward travel from Ystad

Ystad is one of Sweden's best-preserved medieval towns, so a stroll through the old town is worthwhile before you carry on. By car you continue to Malmö and on via the Öresund Bridge to Copenhagen. It's around 45 km to Trelleborg, with its ferries to Germany, via road 9 or the E65. That makes a round trip easy to plan: out via Bornholm, back from Trelleborg.

From Berlin and Brandenburg: Świnoujście - Ystad, you set off close to the border and arrive straight in Skåne.
With an island stop: Sassnitz - Rønne and on with Rønne - Ystad, with a few days on Bornholm in between.
