Turku is Finland's gateway to the west. From here you sail through two of the Baltic's largest archipelagos to Stockholm, with a short stop on Åland along the way. Unlike the route from Helsinki, you can also make this crossing in daylight and watch the islands go by from the deck.
Departing from Turku
The ferry harbour lies at the mouth of the river Aurajoki. Tallink Silja Line departs from the Silja Line terminal at Linnankatu 91. You reach the platforms for trains from Helsinki and Tampere via a glazed walkway, about 200 m from the terminal, and bus 1 runs from the market square to the harbour. Check-in opens at 16:00, and vehicle check-in at Kuljetuskatu 4 opens at 17:00. Registration closes 30 minutes before departure, boarding 20 minutes before. Cash is no longer accepted at the shops or check-in.
With Viking Line, foot passengers and cars should be checked in 30 minutes before departure at the latest, and vehicles over 2.40 m tall 45 minutes before. Check-in closes 20 minutes before sailing.
The crossing
Viking Line takes around 11 hours, Tallink Silja Line around 11 hours 40 minutes; the clock shows an hour less in each case, because Sweden is one time zone behind Finland. Viking Line runs the Viking Glory on the daytime sailing in the morning and the Viking Grace on the overnight sailing. Tallink Silja Line departs in the evening on the Baltic Princess and calls at Långnäs on Åland at 00:40, arriving in Stockholm early the next morning.
A seat is enough for the day sailing; overnight you book a cabin. On board there are restaurants, bars and a shop. On the Baltic Princess most bars are cashless, and on board, Tallink accepts cash in euros only.
With a car, campervan, bike or dog

Arrival in Stockholm and onward travel
Tallink Silja Line docks at Värtahamnen, Hamnpirsvägen 10. You can walk to Gärdet metro station on the red line, bus 76 runs into the centre, and the operator's shuttle buses connect the terminal with Cityterminalen. Through the archipelagos to Stockholm
The ferry from Turku to Stockholm is the shortest link between mainland Finland and the Swedish capital. It runs through the Turku archipelago, across the Åland Sea and finally through the Stockholm archipelago. Two operators sail the route all year round: Viking Line with the Viking Grace and the Viking Glory, one daytime departure and one overnight, and Tallink Silja Line with the Baltic Princess in the evening.
Along the way the ships call at Åland, in Mariehamn or Långnäs depending on the departure. Travel by day and you see the islands from the deck; sail in the evening and you sleep in your cabin, arriving in Stockholm early the next morning.
