Getting there and the Travemünde terminal

The ferry departs from the Skandinavienkai, one of Europe's largest ferry ports; enter Zum Hafenplatz 1, 23570 Lübeck-Travemünde as your sat-nav destination. By car, take the A1 to Lübeck, switch onto the A226 at the Bad Schwartau interchange, which becomes the B75, and take the Skandinavienkai exit straight to the TT-Line terminal. Without a car, bus route 50 runs from Lübeck ZOB to the port building Monday to Saturday, with route 34 on Sundays; travellers arriving by train change at Lübeck-Kücknitz. There's a paid long-stay car park right at the port for anyone crossing without a vehicle.

Check-in and departure

With a vehicle, you check in at Travemünde at the self-service kiosk: scan the barcode from your booking confirmation, collect your boarding card and cabin key, then follow the signs to the berth. Check-in generally opens two hours before departure and closes 30 minutes before - 60 minutes for groups; the same deadlines apply even if you've already checked in online. Foot passengers check in at the terminal building.

In Karlshamn the lead time is longer: check-in at the TT-Line AB terminal building, Öresundsvägen 49-0, 37431 Karlshamn, opens around two hours before departure and closes 90 minutes before. If the office is closed, collect your boarding pass from the multi-kiosk outside the building. At check-in or on board you'll need a valid passport or ID card - children need their own ID. Build in some buffer: miss the deadline and you won't be able to board, and the car decks are closed during the crossing.

On board

This is an overnight route, so a cabin is part of the booking. The Nils Holgersson, one of TT-Line's LNG-powered Green Ships, is currently scheduled on the route; other ships from the fleet may be deployed depending on the departure. On board you'll find restaurants and cafés, lounges and a shop. Payment is cashless with standard cards, charged in euros - you won't need Swedish kronor for the crossing itself.

On some departures the ferry calls at Trelleborg on the way to Karlshamn. In certain cases you'll change ship there; a TT-Line follow-me car then guides you across the port to the connecting ferry. The timetable shows which departures run direct and which call at Trelleborg.

Vehicles, bicycles and pets

Cars, motorcycles, motorhomes and caravans can all travel; the fare depends on vehicle length, so enter your dimensions accurately at booking. Bicycles check in at the kiosk in Travemünde and must wear high-visibility vests while crossing the port area; in Karlshamn cyclists follow the foot-passenger shuttle bus to the ship.

Pets are welcome on all TT-Line ferries and are declared at booking. For the overnight crossing you book a pet cabin, and numbers are limited; your dog can't stay in the vehicle, since the car deck is locked during the crossing. Dogs are allowed on a lead on the passenger decks.

Arrival in Karlshamn and onward travel

Karlshamn is a town of around 30,000 people in the province of Blekinge and one of southern Sweden's major ports. The TT-Line terminal sits on the edge of town on Öresundsvägen, with the nearest cash machine just over two kilometres away in the centre. Next to the TT-Line office you can park free for up to seven days with a permit from the office; camping isn't allowed there.

Without a car, since June 2026 bus route 5 run by Blekingetrafiken connects the ferry terminal directly with Karlshamn Resecentrum railway station; tickets are available via the Blekingetrafiken app, or you can take a taxi. By car you'll take the E22: Karlskrona is a good hour's drive east, Kalmar and the island of Öland are around two hours away, and Stockholm is roughly five to six hours. Heading west, the E22 runs via Kristianstad to Malmö and the Öresund region.

Tickets and fares

TT-Line offers the crossing as a cheaper SMART ticket with no refund on cancellation, or the more flexible FLEX fare, which lets you rebook or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure - refunded as the fare minus the FLEX cost. Booking the outbound and return together with the return package saves up to 20 percent on the ticket price for cars.
